Much the same gear I used in Minneapolis last month, but this time set-up in the artists green room behind the stage and used to record 6 channels at 24 bits and 88.2kHz sample rate rather than 14 24-bit channels at 44.1kHz. Two dCS904 A/D converters, fed by Millennia Media mike preamps, handled the cardioid and spaced-omni mike pairs; a Metric Halo ULN-2 amplified and converted to digital the omnis mounted on the Jecklin disc. The cardioid dCS acted as the master clock and fed the ULN-2's digital input; the second dCS, clocked from the first, fed a Metric Halo MIO2882's digital input, this unit being used basically as an AES/EBU-to-FireWire interface.
The 6 channels were recorded as mono AIF files using the Record Panel of the Metric Halo Console software running on the Mac mini at the upper right of the photo next to the two MH boxes. A mix of the mikes was recorded on the Alesis Masterlink in the SKB rack above the two dCS converters, and monitoring was Sennheiser HD650 and HD600 headphones fed by the Metric Halo boxes and a Benchmark DAC 1 out of shot on the left. Power in the control room was conditioned by an API Power Wedge beneath the converter stack; a PS Audio Power Plant fed clean AC to the mike preamps.
The sessions produced 55GB of data, stored on the portable USB drive sitting on top of the Mac mini and backed up to DVD-R during breaks.
