Description:	I made this based on the classic VPI cleaning machines. It used a wet/dry vacuum inside that I got from Home Depot for $35. It required some modifications, mostly replacing the stock switch and getting rid of a handle on top. I cut a slot partially down the center of the nozzle, as well as plugging up the end and adding soft brush material on either side (the soft side of Velcro!). I cannibalized an old turntable I got from a local store ($50, which was high, but was conveineint). The only things I actually used were the motor, bearing, platter and the minimum amount of electronics to make it turn on and spin. I replaced the switch on this as well as it had been an "auto start" TT with start-up linked to the arm. The box was made from 1/2" MDF and is somewhat damped inside to bring down noise. It's about as loud as a VPI machine. The nozzle holder was custom made from some door jam components I found at the hardware store. Time from start to finish: 10 hours over three days. Works like the pros do!

The only good use for a direct drive turntable. Make sure to use some of those ebony discs on there too. ;-)

Haha- the funny thing is, it's actually a belt drive. I couldn't find a used direct drive TT locally so I just used a belt one. You can see the pulley up towards the front corner. Seems to have enough power during the vacuuming process, although I help it out a bit by hand towards the end of the cleaning cycle.
