McIntosh has two wave-soldering machines, one using conventional solder, the other, shown here, using lead-free solder for products to be exported to companies where the new RoHS regulations apply. Eventually, lead-free solder will be used for all production. The temperature of the lead-free solder bath is kept to a very tight tolerance temperature to ensure the solder joint doesn’t later develop tin whiskers.
